Ranking the 'realistic destinations' for LeBron James based on Rich Paul's white board: 76ers and Warriors lead the way

Rich Paul’s now-viral “white board” of potential landing spots for LeBron James has reignited a familiar NBA question: if the all-time great ever leaves Los Angeles, where could he realistically go to chase one last perfect situation? Two franchises clearly sit atop that theoretical list: the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.

Philadelphia checks almost every box. The Sixers have a top-tier MVP centerpiece in Joel Embiid, a dynamic perimeter star in Tyrese Maxey, and the flexibility to pursue another marquee name or absorb a massive contract. From a basketball standpoint, James would walk into a ready-made contender in the East, with a dominant big man to anchor the paint and a young guard capable of carrying regular-season scoring loads. The market is major, the fan base is rabid, and the franchise is clearly in “win-now” mode. If James ever prioritizes a clean fit around established prime stars and a shorter path through the conference, Philadelphia is the most logical destination.

Golden State is different but just as intriguing. The Warriors are transitioning from dynasty to retool, yet Stephen Curry remains elite and the organizational infrastructure is among the league’s most respected. A Curry–James partnership, even late in their careers, would be one of the most talent-rich combinations the league has seen. The stylistic questions are real: James thrives with the ball, while Golden State’s system is built on movement and read-and-react actions. Still, his size, playmaking, and postseason experience could extend the Warriors’ competitive window and give them a new identity built around two of the era’s defining stars.

Beyond those two, other “white board” destinations lack the same balance of roster fit, contention timeline, and organizational readiness. Some offer cap space but not championship-caliber cores; others have stars but limited flexibility or overlapping roles with James.

In league circles, the prevailing sense is that any move by LeBron would be driven by a narrow calculus: the chance to contend immediately, maintain his brand at the highest level, and control his late-career narrative. On those fronts, the 76ers and Warriors remain the most realistic, and most fascinating, possibilities.
